power toolbar on taskbar lost

The power management "toolbar" (the little picture of the battery and power
plug) was inadvertently closed. How do I retrieve it? I tried opening the
"power options" window from the control panel, but the only option I found
for displaying anything about power management on the taskbar was "Always
show icon on the taskbar".
When I checked this box, a little plug icon showed up to the right of the
arrow that expands the hidden taskbar icons, but that is not the icon I have
lost, and it is not in the same location on the taskbar. The icon that has
always been there - and that I want back - is of a horizontally oriented
battery, with the amount of charge the battery contains, and beside that a
black electric plug, both to the LEFT of the arrow button, beside the
“language†toolbar. Can you help, please?

You don't give enough information to get a precise answer, but I'd guess you
have a notebook computer and that the icon you once had and are now missing
is put there by a driver particular to the notebook. Check in your owner's
manual and/or contact customer support for your notebook. Each manufacture
is likely to use a different driver and different setups (different hardware
to detect the battery charge state.) You did not say when (and after what
possible changes to your system) the icon you want went missing, but you may
be directed to reinstall the driver, find a battery condition program in the
Start Menu, or find another power option icon in Control Panel.

Hi lili, i once had the same problem and it turned out that i turned "data
execution prevention" on for all programs not just essential programs. Im not
sure if this will fix your problem but it worked for me so there must be a
small bug there somewhere, try this... start> control panel> system> advanced
tab> performance settings> data execution prevention> turn on for essentials
windows programs only. hope you sort it out, i fall else fails do a system
restore. that will probley sort it. matt320

Thanks for your response. The computeris an IBM Thinkpad, which did not come
with a manual, unfortunately. The icon disappeared after I inadvertently
clicked on the little balloon that appeared when I right-clicked on the icon.
I thought that it was going to say, "open power manager", but I realized too
late that it said, "close power manager."
....

I have just seached the start menu, and under "Access IBM", I found a
Battery Wizard, which has a window with the option to "Show Battery Gauge on
Taskbar."
I checked that box, and now the icon has been restored!

THANK YOU SO MUCH!!! Problem solved!

Thanks so much. I have found the solution to the problem this time, but I
will keep your message on file for the future.
