Hi,

I am looking to replace my @ 6 year old 300watt power supply (computer not starting - reverted to old graphics card which does not use as much power). Can anybody give me any recommendations as there seems to be a very large price range. I have put my computer spec below if this helps.

Windows XP Professional
1.40 gigahertz AMD Athlon XP
128 kilobyte primary memory cache
256 kilobyte secondary memory cache
Board: ASUSTeK Computer INC. A7A266 REV 1.xx
Bus Clock: 133 megahertz
768 Megabytes Installed Memory
I have a ATI Radeon 9800 PRO graphics card

Thanks for your help

Because that mobo uses the +5.0V rail to power the CPU, you want a PSU
with lots of +5.0V and +3.3V combined power, like at least 180-200W,
but most contemporary PSUs are designed to emphasize the +12V output,
so even many of today's 500W PSUs have combined +5.0V & +3.3V power
ratings of 150W or less. IOW, it may be better for you to buy an older
model PSU. I don't know if your Radeon 9800 Pro has its own power
connector, but if it doesn't I'll bet that it draws most of its power
from the +5.0V too. Stick with a good brand, like
Fortron-Source/Sparkle/Hi-Q/PowerQ, Enermax, Zippy, Delta,
Lite-On/Abelcom/Supermicro, Enhance, or Antec/Xclio.

The 9800pro I used to have had a +12v power connector so I expect his
does too unless they revised it like they did on the X800XL.
