Power Schemes

I have 4 hard drives in my PC and was wondering if choosing a power scheme
that would turn off the hard disks after, say, 3 minutes was a good way of
reducing the ambient temperature of the case? Also, will this power scheme
apply to all hard drives or just the C drive? Lastly, does turning off the
hard drives have any disadvantages?

Cheers.

Power management is really a matter of personal preferences. Personally, I
allow the hard drives that aren't used often to go into standby. If I need
them, there is a slight waiting period before they spin up and are ready
for use.
