Power Scheme Settings

Kenneth Green

Using the registry, how can I set the power scheme settings to "never" turn
anything off regardless of who logs in? My problem is, I log on as admin
and set "Turn off monitor" to "never". Then when someone else logs on,
"Turn off monitor" is back to the default of "After 20 mins" for that user.
I want the monitor to stay on regardless of who logs in.

You can create a profile the way you like it, then while logged on as
another user with local administrative rights Control Panel|System|User
Profiles, select the profile you adjusted, Copy To, Browse to
%systemdrive%\Documents and Settings\Default User
Change "Permitted to use:" to "Everyone" OK

Hi Kenneth

When you make a change to the power settings the data gets saved in the
location HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Control Panel\PowerCfg\PowerPolicies below a
specific number relating to your power profile.

The data however is in binary form so the best way is to set the power
settings as you want it and then export the HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Control
Panel\PowerCfg registry key and import it at logon time.

If you want it to apply to the logon screen too then you need to import
it into HKU\.Default\Control Panel\PowerCfg too - this would then affect
the settings at the logon screen.

Hope this helps.
