Power Scheme problems

I have a sony Vaio laptop and the power scheme settings are all greyed out.
In other words I cannot adjust the power settings. In addition the battery
power is not read when I am on battery power.

Have you looked at the BIOS settings to see if there is something there?

I have not checked the BIOS because I don't know how or what to look for.
Can you point me in the right direction?

If it is a corprate owned laptop (your work gave it to you and its not yours
personally) then you may not have the rights required to change power
settings.

Or when you set up your user account you didn't give yourself admin rights
(again to be able to change stuff).

As far as BIOS goes when your system first starts up you have to press a key
to get into Setup. F10 or DEL or something like that. Once in there look
for Power Options or Power Management.
