power point viewer does not run presentations as planned

I make a nice presentation in Power Point 2000, but when I try to open it
in power point viewer 2003 (or 97) the movie clips don't play, the sounds
are out of sync, etc. It runs great when running with "view slide show"
in power point 2000. Any ideas?

This sounds like it is two different issues.

Issue 1 --
Movies don't play. I suspect that the movies either did not get included,
or the links were severed when the presentation was moved. The solutions to
this issue are to be found at:
**Links break when I move presentation (and at other times)

Issue 2 --
Sound timing. There are a lot of factors.

Thanks for the reply. I can assure you that there were no broken links
All my files that comprised my presentation were in the same folder
I then used powerpoint viewer 2003 to open the ppt file from this folde
and the movies did not play. Yet in my powerpoint 2000 program it ran fin
by selecting view show. I was able to get it to play in a viewer by using "pack and go
and including the viewer with powerpoint 2000 which was "PPview32". This sam
file from "pack and go" would still not play as it should in PPviewer 2003

How long are the file paths? Limit the path to under 120 or so character.
Movies are played on different system devices between the two viewers. This
may be the source of the problem. Does reducing the path length solve it?

The file paths are not long at all - just C:\folder\file
I was able to solve my problem by using ppview3
instead of powerpoint 2003. I packaged the older viewe
with my presentation on a CD so that anyone using it had to us
the viewer that it worked on. The ppview32 came with the power poin
2000 that I am using. Still thought that if it works on that, the newe
viewer would also work, but am content that have found a way around usin
my presentation on different PCs

There is a known bug in the PowerPoint 2003 Viewer that causes it to not
play audio and video automatically if the presentation was created in
PowerPoint 97 or 2000. Your solution is the only available work around,
i.e. reverting to the PowerPoint 97 Viewer. Congratulations on your
resolution!

Hmm. Does it self-repair if you take the same presentation, open it in
2002/2003, delete and re-insert all the media?

S

Sonia

It does repair under those circumstances, but I have yet to have a user who
has PowerPoint 2002, but is using PowerPoint 97 or 2000.

You don't even have to delete and re-insert the media files. You just have
to make a minor change to the presentation so that a full save will be done.
Microsoft recommends just entering a blank space to the Notes pane. The KB
article at
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;832039&Product=ppt
documents the problem and resolutions.

It all gets clearer if you read "PowerPoint 2003 Viewer" as written and not
"PowerPoint 2003"

I like it better when my thinkos produce funny stuff than dumb stuff.

I've concluded that I have "Comedic Dyslexia". I see signs and stuff, misread
them as something utterly insane, do a quick doubletake and ... oh. Is THAT all
it was? Never mind.

Livens up those boring interstate drives, dontcha know.

Then again, sometimes it really DID say that. There's one sign along I-65 that
always gives my worldview a bit of a twist:

"For Sale ... Used Cows"

I just don't know what to make of that one.
