I recently received an e-mail attachment which is a Power Point Presentation
(slide show). I cannot open it. It says, "This file does not have a program
associated with it for performing this action. Create an association in the
Set Associations control panel." How do I go about doing this? I have the MS
Office Power Point Viewer 2003 on this computer. Please help - thanks!

Office 2007 introduced new file formats. Perhaps you need the most
recent version of PowerPoint Viewer:

The attachment I am trying to open is Title(TIK).pps - I do not see a file
listed for TIK or pps. I downloaded the 2007 Viewer so I should be able to
open it if I know what fix to apply? Do I download the reg fix? Would this
mean that I am unable to open the Power Point Slide Show because my registry
needs to be repaired? Thank you for you patience!

Rename the file title.pps - only an idiot would use () in a file name.

If you have Power Point Viewer, should be a free download, and it's
really a pps file.

that link is for the 2007 viewer.

I'm not sure what fix/file I was supposed to repair. I tried reg but I still
cannot open the e-mail. I also downloaded Power Point 2007 but that didn't
help to open it either. The file is marked Title(TIK).pps Thanks for any
additional help!

Ok, one more time, rename the file "title.pps" and then double click on
it or use the PP viewer to open it.

If it doesn't open then it's not really a Power Point file, call the
person that sent it to you and ask what type it is.

Another "great" teaching lesson from world authority, Leythos.

ROTFLMAO! This idiot couldn't get a dog to eat if he dangled a hot
dog in front of it's nose.

Hint to Mr. Computer "expert"... as far as Windows is concerned only
what it RIGHT of the dot matters, anything left doesn't mean crap. I
guest this fool that keeps telling us he has 20+ years of Windows
experience and loves to pretend to be an authority hasn't figured that
out yet.

File types need to be 'associated' with some application that
understands them. In this case Power Point.

Begin by look in Control Panel, Default Programs, then click on
Associate a file type or protocol with a program. Wait the for list to
build, then scroll down and see if you have anything listed for .pps.

If not you need to install an application that understands that type.
You should be able to find a free viewer for Power Point on Microsoft
site.

When you receive an attachment from email the attachment should be
sent to some folder that you told it to your email program. Example
for me, it is download. Once you find it, just double click on the
file and that should open it if you followed the above advice.

The simple thing to do is save the .ppt file in the email with the SaveAs
and use any of the two PPT viewer you have on the computer 2003 or 2007 and
directly open the file with Menu/File of the viewers.

You might run into another problem where Vista will block a file that came
in an email, which really came from a foreign computer in this case, that
was saved to the hard drive, and you may have to unblock the file.

I know it's talking about executable files. But I did have to unblock a Word
file that I had downloaded from a site that wouldn't open -- no message or
nothing. It just wouldn't open, until I went to the Properties of the file
and unblocked it.

Thank you very much for your well-explained directions. I could read the
attachment and will be able to open future Power Point Slide Shows.
