Power options / battery meter display incorrect power remaining

I have done a fresh installation of Windows 2000 Professional on a Sony Vaio
PCGN505VE notebook. The standard Windows power management utilities give a
low battery alarm after only 10-15 minutes of use. I have installed the Sony
Power panel and battery monitor and they give the correct level for the
battery. This has left me with a duplicate battery indicator in the tray
(standard Windows 2K) that reports wrong information. Does anyone no how to
correct or disable the standard Win2K tray icon?

Unfortunately that only disables the icon when you are on AC power. It still
shows when you are on batteyr power. That is what I am trying to get rid of.
