power off

is there some hidden setting in the registry that causes
Windows to displaay "it is now safe to turn off your
computer" instead of just shutting down?
it used to turn off in Windows 2000, but now I've
upgraded to XP and it just goes to the Off screen and
sits there. ???

Scotty,

Using Regedit (Start, Run, Regedit), verify that
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows
NT\CurrentVersion\Winlogon\PowerdownAfterShutdown is set to 1

If that doesn't work, check out Microsoft's site

Shut Down Your Computer
