Power management

Jim Guthrie

Running Windows XP Home, I used to get Power management working, but
not recently.

If I try to put the computer to sleep using the 'Sleep' button on the
keyboard, the computer and monitor power down, but then they almost
immediately start up again.

The same thing happens if I try to put the computer into StandBy using
Start/Turn Off Computer/Standby.

The same thing happens when the computer responds to the settings in
Power management - you hear the PC power down, then immediately power
up again.

I haven't changed anything on the PC and the only installations I have
done recently are Windows Online updates. Any suggestions.

Jim.

Once you click on the Standby button, do not touch the
keyboard or move the mouse. The slightest movement of the
mouse will bring the computer out of standby. That is how
my system works. When I am in standby, if I accidently
bump into the desk, the computer resumes from Standby.

Interesting comment. I've read some threads where folks have turned their
mouse upside down to avoid a "wiggle" and a resume.
