power management

Are there any negative's to "turning off hard drive"in power management,
and
what action brings the idle hard drive out of a nap. Is shut down after 30
min.'s ok

Any time the system decides to "check" the status of the drive it will
"spin it up. Negatives, yes, constant starting and stopping of the drive
is a negative in my book. Also if it manages to stay stopped long
enough to be needed by you, you're going to have to wait for it to
spinup. So only if the PC is going to sleep, then power down but, then
that's part of the standby/hibernate sequence.
