Is there a way to get Vista to ask you want to do when the power button is
pressed, like it did in XP.
I know it sounds silly but you need it when using Media Centre via a remote.

Does your Hi-Fi Stere ask for confirmation when you press the power button? NO
Does you TV ask for confirmation when you press the power button? NO
Does you Car ask for confirmation when you press the power button? NO
Does your Home ask for confirmation when you press the power light button? NO

While the 4 examples you cited are true, they really do not apply to the
question. I doubt that shutting off your car the wrong way will require you
to replace the engine. Shutting down a computer the wrong way can cause the
computer to stop working or even become useless.

Those options are no longer available in Vista. You can configure what you
want to happen when the power button is pressed in the Control Panel/Power
Options.

These are all true but your TV, Hi-Fi or Light don't have the options to
restart, Log off or Shutdown.

Basically you need to option when you are using Vista as a Media Centre and
you are not sitting at the PC and are operating it via a remote control only.
No keyboard or Mouse to operate the Windows GUI.
