I've got this list going of critical post-sp2 fixes, and I was wondering
if anyone sees any glaring errors or omissions. Your help will be
mocked but appreciated! ;-)

And a side query, any one know why the latest version of the Windows
Installers (3.1) KB893803 page has been pulled from Microsoft's site?
Is there a problem with it?

I can't wait to see what you're going to do with this! (-:

If you knew as much as you think you know,
You would realize that you don't know what you thought you knew!

Kurt,

Why don't you go to Windows Update and click on history. If you have
installed everything, as I have, they will all be listed there! I think it
should be everything.

Not a critical update but it does resolve several OE6 issues in WinXP SP2,
Kurt: http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=887797

=> 5 of the 7 Resolutions must be manually enabled;

=> *HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Policies\Microsoft\Outlook Express* does not
exist in Home Edition so the steps involving this key don't need to be done
if running HE. (KB article still does not address this issue.)

To install, go to Windows Update > Custom install > Select optional software
updates (left pane) > ...

Yep, including patches that were superceded by later patches, and I'm
trying to avoid listing out-of-date patches.

As for what I'm doing with this page is adding it to my Common Sense
Computing page.

From http://www.microscum.com/comsense/:

Even after successfully installing SP2, try to stay away from Automatic
& Windows Update for catching up with the post-SP2 Updates. For those
that aren't too effin' lazy to figure out what patches they need to
install after SP2 has been successfully installed, these two links below
will get you started.

Security Bulletin Search

after successfully installing SP2:

Thanks Bear! I have added your suggestion. Much appreciated!

Oh! And the mocking will come from your MVP peers, for being mentioned
on my site, and not being ridiculed by me! ;-)

Looks good to me.

You could consider adding this:

Unless you have installed MSN Messenger 7.0, this one should
be installed:

Vulnerability in MSN Messenger Could Lead to Remote Code
Execution (896597)
http://www.microsoft.com/technet/security/Bulletin/MS05-022.mspx

Yes, from

<quote>
The Windows Installer 3.1 update has been removed because of unexpected
compatibility issues with specific software applications. For more
information, see the following article in the Microsoft Knowledge Base:

I combined this with MS05-009 as I didn't give the patch for that but to
MSN Messenger 7, which is unaffected by either vulnerability.

Cool! I pulled the Windows Installer 3.1 update off.

Thanks Torgeir! Sorry, but I just can't mock you! :)
