Possible to customize items in file open dialog?

R

Is it possible to customize the file open browse list? That is,
in applications there is generally a "File Open" menu item that brings
up a file browsing dialog box. This has a "Look in" dropdown menu
that lists the usual suspects; "My Computer," "Local Disk C:,"
"My Network Places," etc. Is it possible to add an item to this
dropdown list? (I have a specific request for this from someone and
it's just something I've never looked at before.)

Thanks for any help with this...

browse to the folder you want to add, right-click in the free area at the
bottom of the "Look In" pane and click on "Add [folder]"

Thanks -- though I must be missing something. When I right click on the
whitespace in the "Look In" dropdown area there is no popup menu for the
"Add [folder]" item.

I know of no way to accomplish your goal, but you can change
the locations in the bar on the left hand side of the Open
dialog with Microsoft's TweakUI XP Powertoy.

Take a look at the "Places Bar in the Common Dialog Box"
section of this site.

Direct Download of TweakUI

Good luck

Thanks, I'll take a look at it.

I found a workaround for this particular user -- I found that he basically
had a "Network Place" pointing to another machine on the LAN that he
frequently opens files on, and he wanted to minimize the necessary
mouse clicks. I simply mapped a drive to the appropriate network share
and it shows up prominently along with his local drives.
