Possible Hardware problem ??

Morning,

Not a disaster but was wondering if someone could help me

Yesterday i built myself a new pc comprising:

CPU = AMD AM2 Athlon 64 3800+ Windsor Core 2Ghz
Motherboard = Asus M2V VIA K8T890 Chipset
Memory = 1Gb Corsair XMS2 DDR2 PC2-6400 (800)
Graphics Card = XFX 256mb 7600 GS PCI-E
HD = Maxtor 160Gb SATA I (HD from previous PC)

Now everything has loaded how it should do but when I switch it on, it first
comes up with a Asus screen but after that this comes up:

"Disc cannot be found, Please wait" (waits about 5 secs)

then it comes up with the normal xp screen and loads normally

what disc is it looking for ??

Would an update of the bios help clear this problem ??

and what is the best way of up dating the bios, as the update program that
came with the MB doesn't tell you much.

If this was cleared it would probably make the boot up twice as fast

"Pointless"

Check your BIOS for the disk detection order during boot and set it appropriately.

3rd boot devices with no change, still get the message

I always zero write a hard drive if its going into another PC, or new and
different motherboard.

I can't see your bios setup from here regarding the 5 second wait. Could be
boot from CD taking initial priority, or, the SATA configuration.

From the Asus support site:
<quote>
Q: There is a warning message during system bootup "Disk Not Found!!". But my HDD is
running and is able to enter Windows. How can I solve it ?
A: The warning is from Marvell 88SE6121 External SATA controller .
You can disable it from BIOS -> Advanced -> Onboard Devices Configuration -> Onboard
Marvell 6121 Controller -> Disable.

The major hard drive makers offer such software at their website. Must be
run from boot media, not within XP. Typically does 2 things. Zero writes
the usable areas. Maps out the unusable areas.

There are freebies other than those. Try "zero write" or "zero-write" in
Google advanced search, english language.

As an example, for my Western Digital hard drives, I use the tools from WD.
Part of it has a zero write application.
