Porno Problem

Blame it on Khali.
I found a cartoon desktop buddy on a humor site and
checked it with norton antivirus.
After I installed it the hoochman had put porn links all
over my computer including my right click menu.
Apparently the dirt bag had reprogrammed the .exe
anyhoo I went to the standard
HKEY_CURRENT_USER/Software/Microsoft/internetexplorer/Menu
Ext and deleted the most of them but there's one
invisible buzzard that just keeps on hanging in there and
I just can't sem to get rid of it.
It's right below the "open" context menu on the right
click and only appears when I'm over files.
Not short cuts or even executables but just over files.
I'm really stumped here and I still have bruises from the
wife.
Could somebody please help me to get my dignity and my
menu back?
 
Try Spybot Search&Destroy...i don't know if works with
this, but it's good for many "malware".
 
Hi Max - As you've been advised, try AdAware and SpyBot S&D first. If that
doesn't work, then:

Well, you kinda need to know what the parasite(s) is/are before you can do
much about fixing them except to apply some general tools like AdAware
and/or SpyBot S&D (see below). Start here:

Download HijackThis, free, here:
http://www.spywareinfo.com/~merijn/files/hijackthis.zip

Unzip it to any convenient folder, start it then press Scan. Click on
SaveLog when it's finished which will create hijackthis.log. Now click the
Config button, then Misc Tools and click on Generate StartupList.log which
will create Startuplist.txt

Then go to one of the following forums:

Sign in, then copy and paste both files into a message asking for
assistance, Someone will answer with detailed instructions for the removal
of your parasite(s).


For the general hijack case, the best way to start is to get Ad-Aware 6.0,
Build 181 or later, here: http://www.lavasoftusa.com/support/download/.
Update and run this regularly to get rid of most "spyware/hijackware" on
your machine. If it has to fix things, be sure to re-boot and rerun
AdAware again and repeat this cycle until you get a clean scan. The reason
is that it may have to remove things which are currently "in use" before it
can then clean up others.

Another excellent program for this purpose is SpyBot Search and Destroy
available here: http://security.kolla.de/ SpyBot Support Forum here:
http://www.net-integration.net/cgi-bin/forums/ikonboard.cgi. I recommend
using both normally. After fixing things with SpyBot S&D, be sure to
re-boot and rerun SpyBot again and repeat this cycle until you get a clean
"no red" scan. The reason is that SpyBot sometimes has to remove things
which are currently "in use" before it can then clean up others.


Note that sometimes you need to make a judgement call about what these
programs report as spyware. See here, for example:

Thanks you guys but I should have clarified....
I already have spybot search and destroy (outstanding
program) and it removed the parasite already, but it's
the link to the deleted script that remains in my right
click menu and all attempts to find and delete it have
failed.
What I am looking to know is if there is a registry entry
besides the MenuExt that I can use to remove the item
from the menu manually.
I'm sorry for not being clear about this and I would like
to thank you all for your help and replies so far.

Create a system restore point in case you screw things up then .....

Start > Run > regedit
In the left pane click on My Computer
Click on Edit > Find
Enter the text of the context menu and search

Delete entries relating to / containing the link / text in question but
don't go overboard with the deleting

Any problems use system restore to get back & try again
