Porn Pop-ups

For the past month or so my computer has been behaving
very strangely. When I first boot up, I get a message
that "a program or you has requested gator.com (or one of
several other websites), which connection do you want to
use?" These messages pop up every few seconds for a
minute or so. If I do log on to my server using Netscape
or use the AOL browser, I start getting pop-ups from all
kinds of sites, including porn sites. I have noticed that
these pop-ups come up in Microsoft Internet Explorer no
matter which browser I happen to be using. The other day
I was looking at the Bass Pro Shops website using
Netscape when the photos of outdoor gear suddenly turned
into porn photos (and the browser banner turned from
Netscape to Internet Explorer). Tonight I received an e-
mail from a friend with an attachment containing a photo
of a recent mountain climbing trip... and a porn photo
(which I am very certain he did not send). I have tried
to uninstall Internet Explorer which doesn't seem to do
any good as it must be an integral part of XP. It seems
as though its being uninstalled and yet it remains. I
have tried deleting all cookies and temporary internet
files in Explorer to no avail. Must I uninstall Windows
XP? Do I have some kind of virus? I have a recent copy
of Norton Antivirus which updates automatically and says
that there are no viruses in my computer. Please help
before my wife throws out me AND the computer.
Thank you for your consideration!

If you wish to solve your pop-up problems once and for
all, consider purchasing and installing a third-party program
designed to do just that:

Norton Internet Security 2003

-- Includes Norton AntiVirus 2003
-- Includes Norton Personal Firewall
-- Includes prevention of annoying web pop-ups
-- Includes Parental Controls
-- All in one, easy-to-install package
