Not to be rude, but how do you know your son *isn't* ultimately responsible
for this?
Who has access to this computer?

What are the symptoms you're experiencing? Where are you seeing the
offensive material?

Well, if you don't want it there, and your son isn't doing it, who is?
It doesn't appear by magic, you know.

10 to 1 it's your son. If a kid has access to porn, he's going to go for it.
It's the nature of a boy. CyberSitter is excellent software that blocks
offensive websites and updates its filters automatically. You can also
specify which filters it can use and add custom websites to block or allow.
You can also add "words" to the filter list, shut off internet access
remotely and specify specific times that internet access is allowed. It also
will send you an email everyday listing the sites visited by which user and
any violations that may have slipped past the filters.

You can password protect it and limit the time the systray icon is visible.
A great program.

Just google for cybersitter.

As for the current content, that will have to be cleaned out, and you'll
also need to run updated virus scans and spyware scans. The porn you are
seeing on your computer was invited in. You'll have to clean it up and shut
the door.

This is all just a part of the malware war. This can happen to a user from
simply downloading a new screensaver. No person blame but to the culprits
who enjoy doing this to everyday users.

I am on the internet more than most. I have not received any unwanted (or
any other type of) porn in more than 8 years. Someone is going to web sites
that download the enablers that start the ball rolling. If not an actual
porn site, then one that is subsidized by the porn industry.

It doesn't "just appear" (-:

If you are ever on a web site that claims that you need a download to view
the music video - THINK TWICE! You may get more than you ask for!

To be fair here you can get diallers etc dumped on you just about
anywhere nowadays. Lyrics sites are rife with things that attach
themselves and I am almost afraid to browse for anything nowadays
without scanning afterwards just to make sure something hasn't been
put on my HD

My son used to get a lot of nasty stuff when he visited Diablo and
diabloII websites, including porn popups and diallers

And so the possibility that it was intentionally sought doesn't exist?
That's a bit naive, isn't it?

Only as naive as those who jump on "it was the son" or "Could you be
searching porn sites" bandwagons.

Bandwagons are irrelevant. I merely stated the likelihood.

What starts the ball rolling is the notices to "you must install/dowload
xxxxx to view this page" etc.

Not really. I never get them. Wish I would that way I can talk about how
to remove them.
