I cannot stop the pop-ups which come through IE. Even a I
type this they appear. microsoft says I have to enter
each address to restrict them but this is an ongoing pain
is there another solution

First eliminate any scumware.

Note that AdAware and SpyBot S & D will each catch some things the other
won't. Also, each needs to be updated before every use, even when just
downloaded. There's also a lot more to do than just those two programs.

I use Pop-Up Stopper from www.panicware.com. If it prevents something you
*want* to pop up (such as informational boxes included with some sites),
just press the "ctrl" key as you click on the location you want.
