I only get popups about stopping popups from messenger.
How do i stop them from coming up on my computer all the
time? 20 to 30 times a day.

quick fix is to goto

Start
Run
type
net stop messenger
click OK

however this still means your PC is potentially open to attack
you should really install a firewall. There are free personal
ones

such as www.kerio.com

George,

Go to Control Panel>>Administrative Tools>> Component Services >> Services
(Local)
Find the Service named "Messenger" open it, click on stop, and set it's
start up to disabled.

BTW Steve is also right....
If you don't have a firewall you should get one. But I had the norton and
it didn't stop the popus but that's because they're not a security risk.
Just anoying.

George,
Steve is almost always right..hehe

For pretty good protection suggest you go look at www.spychecker.com
If you can not afford to protect yourself, it's kinda like not being able to
afford kids, and not buying condoms to save the money.

Take a look at these:
AVG AVP (www.grisoft)free(but the one you buy is batter and they will be there
next year to support you)

Zone Alarm Firewall (www.zonelabs.com) same note

Ad-aware (www.lavasoftusa.com) privacy tool (same note)

SpyBot-S&D (http://www.safer-networking.org) be careful and learn how to use
(great tool)

Added Note: Always keep a fresh ERD and Full BackUp on hand. Always remove your
data and setups (like address nooks, favorites, preferences, dial settings, broadband
settings, etc.) I also suggest you download a current Service Pack (network version
will d/l and is like store bought) to have on hand. Other tips are to never open
attachments from anyone, unless you know for sure that it wasn't a virus on their
computer that sent it. You can email to ask them. Stay away from Warez, Porno,
Gambling, and Freebie sights. Tey will cause you more misery than good.

Greetings --

Does the title bar of these pop-ups read "Messenger Service?"

This type of spam has become quite common over the past several
months, and unintentionally serves as a valid security "alert." It
demonstrates that you haven't been taking sufficient precautions while
connected to the Internet. Your data probably hasn't been compromised
by these specific advertisements, but if you're open to this exploit,
you may well be open to other threats, such as the Blaster Worm that
recently swept cross the Internet. Install and use a decent,
properly configured firewall. (Merely disabling the messenger
service, as some people recommend, only hides the symptom, and does
little or nothing to truly secure your machine.) And ignoring or just
"putting up with" the security gap represented by these messages is
particularly foolish.

Oh, and be especially wary of people who advise you to do nothing
more than disable the messenger service. Disabling the messenger
service, by itself, is a "head in the sand" approach to computer
security. The real problem is _not_ the messenger service pop-ups;
they're actually providing a useful, if annoying, service by acting as
a security alert. The true problem is the unsecured computer, and
you've been advised to merely turn off the warnings. How is this
helpful?

Greetings --

Actually, the messenger pop-ups do indicate a severe security
risk - W32.Blaster.Worm and W32.Welchia.Worm use the same method to
propagate themselves.
