Any good free popup blockers out there besides the one built into Internet
Explorer for Windows?

You can block a lot with a good Hosts file....costs nothing in resources
or $$. The MVP list is one of the best....see above URL.

The above Google search reveals a number of free popup blocker review
sites. Suggest you look through some of them and find one that fits your
needs.

Failure to hit the bullseye is never a fault of the target.
Thanks.

You are correct that a good HOSTS file can really help while surfing.
However, have you been able to solve the 'back button' problem when
using a HOSTS file.

I have access to several popup blockers on my system (SP2, Norton,
Spyware Doctor, and so forth) but have settled on the one built into the
Google toolbar. It's terrific. Haven't seen a popup ad in ages.

Wasn't aware of a problem with the back button.....mine works. Now that I
know there is a problem, mine will probably act up.
Heirloom, old and it is only a problem if
you are aware of it
