PopUp Adverts

Can somebody help??
I am pig sick of pop up adverts appearing when I go on the
web.
It initially started with the adverts but now I get "Pop
up program downloads". All buttons seem to point to "Yes"
ie if I press No or X the program starts downloading (and
they all seem to be certified).
Have I got a virus... Or is it one of these SpyAd things I
hear about.
Most important - how do I get rid?
Help would be appreciated

1. Start with a comprehensive spyware/adware clean-up approach. Get a copy
of AdAware from http://www.lavasoftusa.com/, install it, update it, then run
it and clean everything it finds. Also get a copy of CoolWeb Shredder from
http://www.spywareinfo.com/~merijn/ and run it as well.

2. Get a pop-up blocker. Use Google to search, there are many free ones
out there. For that matter, Google themselves have one, as does MSN. Your
ISP may also offer one.
