Does anyone have a straghtforward and effective way to get
rid of something called pop64 which includes a file called
a65d.exe?

Thanks!

Here are a couple of approaches:

Here's Symantec's write up, including manual removal instructions, for one
pest using names similar to those you have posted--if this seems to fit what
you actually find on your machine, you could use their manual removal steps.

http://www.symantec.com/avcenter/venc/data/adware.popuppers.html

Alternatively, you could try an online antivirus scan with a scanner known
to target spyware as well as traditional viruses, and to allow removal as
well. One such scanner is Trend Micro's:

This involves less manual labor, and is probably safer--no registry
editing--so if it were me, I'd try Housecall first, and if it failed, start
looking closely at Symantec's instructions and comparing them to what I find
actually in place on the machine.

Additionally--if Microsoft Antispyware has failed to detect this, or failed
to remove it, with the machine started in safe mode--please send in a Tools,
Suspected Spyware report--they need to know what they are missing out there.
