I can't get Hotmail to access the pop3 server for WM and foward messages. Is
there some trick ?

I have no idea what you are talking about. Please explain what you mean.

I have a Windows live account. I have a business website and would like to
link that email account to my Windows Live account so that I can get all my
messages in one. Is this possible? I tried and it and got an error
connecting to the pop3 server.
I would appreciate any help. Thanks

It isn't clear what you mean by "link".
How do you currently retrieve email messages from your Live account?

Sorry about that. I will try to explain better...

I have a business website. Through my hosting company, I got an email
account. Their email software is not user friendly. So I was wondering if I
could get my email from my business email account to be delivered to my
windows live (hotmail)account. I tried putting in the pop3 info and it came
back with an error. I am not sure if what I am asking, can be done? Or do I
have to have the premium version.

If so, do I need to confirm with my hosting company the pop3 and port info?

I have a business website. Through my hosting company, I got an email
account. Their email software is not user friendly.

Do they have POP and SMTP servers? They typically do, and that information
is what you typically want to use.
So I was wondering if I
could get my email from my business email account to be delivered to my
windows live (hotmail)account.

Probably. At your site host, specify that you are forwarding to your
Hotmail account.

However, you may then find that when you reply, people see the reply as
coming from hotmail, not from your business.
I tried putting in the pop3 info and it came back with an error.

Where exactly are you entering this? In Windows Live Mail client software
or on the Hotmail web interface? This is an extremely important
distinction.

If you're forwarding, the configuration is done at your host's site, not at
Hotmail.
I am not sure if what I am asking, can be done? Or do I
have to have the premium version.

I'm now not sure exactly what you are asking, but you can either configure
Windows Live Mail (WLM) to use your host's POP and SMTP servers, or forward
the business mail to Hotmail, and then download that with Windows Live Mail.
If so, do I need to confirm with my hosting company the pop3 and port
info?

If you want to connect to their POP and SMTP servers, you definitely need
that information. If you are forwarding the mail to Hotmail, you don't
need it, because you just tell the host what address to forward the mail to.

Forwarding this way does not help you with having replies look like they
come from your business.

It should be possible to handle your domain email in a more
user-friendly fashion. You said "it came back with an error."
An error message from Windows Mail? If so, right-click on your error
message, copy, then paste it into a reply here.
We can't do much troubleshooting without the complete error message.

Okay its working somewhat... lol

I can receive but not send. Below is the error I received trying to send.

The connection to the server has failed.

Subject 'Re: Hey yourself!'
Server: 'mail.modernelements.ca'
Windows Live Mail Error ID: 0x800CCC0E
Protocol: SMTP
Port: 25
Secure(SSL): No
Socket Error: 10060

If its not going to send an email that says my business, I don't want to use
Hotmail then. Is it the same in Windows Live Mail? I can receive but not
send. I pasted the error I get in my reply to Gary.

Thanks for including the complete error message. It makes trouble-
shooting so much easier.

What you experienced is normal. As a general rule, the owner of
the SMTP server must be the same as the one providing your Internet
connection at that moment. For more on this see
http://www.postcastserver.com/help/Port_25_Blocking.aspx

In order to make this work for you, I need two pieces of information.
Are you sending from home only, and if so, who is your Internet
connection provider at home?

Robin said:
I am sending only from home at the this time. My service provider is
Bell -
Sympatico.

First, if you are sending from home, Bell will not let you use a non-Bell
server on Port 25. End of story, and it's the same with Rogers.

Second, if you are sending from home with the Sympatico server specified as
the SMTP server, *sometimes their listed settings do not work*.

The Sympatico mail pages specify that SSL must be turned on, but I have
found that in some clients (such as Outlook 2007) this doesn't work. In
that case, *Auto* may work.

Retrieving mail from your business mail server should not be an issue. The
problem is only with sending. You should ask your mail administrator for
an alternate port setting that isn't on Port 25, because neither Bell or
Rogers will allow you to send on Port 25 except through *their* servers.
