POP3 error and email error on email set up

I have MediaComm DSL and I get the following errors when trying to set up
email account.

1. "Outlook could not connect to the outgoing SMTP mail server because the
server did not accept your user name or password."

2. "The POP3 email acct. you created does not support Secure Password
Authentication (SPA). It says to clear the Log on useing Secure Password
Authentication (SPA)." If I remove all requests to log on using secure
password authentication I still get the first error.
