Pop3 Connection Problem

Hi ... I have a problem that recently developed. Accounts that I have
recently created will not download e-mail via pop3. I get event IDs
1011 and 1022 in the event log on the Exchange 2003 server. The user
gets the following error:

There was a problem logging onto your mail server. Your Password was
rejected. Account: 'BobJones', Server: 'obiwan.specsci.com', Protocol:
POP3, Server Response: '-ERR Logon failure: unknown user name or bad
password.', Port: 110, Secure(SSL): No, Server Error: 0x800CCC90, Error
Number: 0x800CCC92

Looking into the MS KBs I see references to the username not matching
the pre-W2K name, but they do match. The settings of the new user are
exactly the same of users that have been using pop3 for some time now.

We largely use corporate mail at the office and I encourage folks at
home to use webmail so this isn't a drastic problem; however, it could
become one if the right person can't get their pop3 mail. Thanks for
your ideas.

It seems fairly clear that the password specified for the BobJones account
trying to log into obiwan.specsci.com is incorrect. I'm assuming that
obiwan.specsci.com is the Exchange server's POP portal for use by outside
your network. We have to specify our usernames as "exchangedomain\username"
in the Username field in order to login from some sources. Is the case of
the password correct? Are you absolutely sure that the account contains the
correct password?

Hi ... I am positive on the password. I can access the mail account via
server-based mail and webmail using the same username and password as
the pop3 account.

Thanks
Jay
