Pop3 and McAfee

Hey all,

I have a machine on which McAfee SecurityCenter was installed with all the
applications. (not by me though!) After the install, Outlook will no longer
download e-mail from the POP3 server. It connects and everything looks fine
according to the SMTP log file but the mail doesn't get retrieved. Even
after completely un-installing the software the problem persists. I did go
into the properties for this account and verify that the SMTP and POP3
servers are correct, not set to localhost as McAfee requires after install.
The same
is also true of Outlook Express using the same account and mailbox. I have
verified the problem is not associated with the ISP. McAfee says that with
the software un-installed, it must be some other problem but I am very
sceptical.

Have you ever run across this and figured out how to fix it?

Thanks for any help you can give.

Jack

Try disabling the McAfee email integration.

You might need to use an application such as Magic Mail Monitor to (
http://mmm3.sourceforge.net/ ) to connect to your POP3 account and delete
all existing messages on the server.

Sometimes if McAfee finds a virus it leave messages on the server that can't
be retrieved. For that reason, I disable McAfee email integration.

My body text is being remove from emails so all I get is
the header and subject line. If this is an associated
McAffee problem I'd be grateful for a forwarded copy of
correspondace you've had with them as it seems
suspiciously like they're burying their heads in the sand.

Thanks
JJ
