You can try HijackThis! to check what items may be loading/loaded on
boot. Also try a good process viewer (www.snapfiles.com has some) to
track down what is running. Google any boot items or services/processes
that you can't identify. Good luck.

Hi Gabriele,
I have tried all those but still doing it!! the pc might go for a hour or so
with no problem but then will connect to the web and I get Smiley adverts!!
Only thing I have noticed is I have gained a extra task bar besides the
Google one in IE!!

You have an extra toolbar in IE? Does it identify itself? When you
look in the registry under the key:

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Toolbar

then check under the subkeys Explorer, ShellBrowser, and WebBrowser to
see what toolbars have been added. They are probably identified by a
classID. For example, the Address bar is
{01E04581-4EEE-11D0-BFE9-00AA005B4383} and defined under:

HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\CLSID\{01E04581-4EEE-11d0-BFE9-00AA005B4383}

So you'll have to use the classIDs of each listed toolbar and then go
check under the CLSID subkey to find what they are for.

Some toolbars or functions are added as BHOs (browser helper objects).
Spybot can list those for you or you can use BHO Demon.

Does the mysterious connection just open your home page, or does it
navigate to somewhere else?

If you can wait for a bit, then both Ad-Aware and Spybot S&D will have
updates on their websites. Ad-Aware is updated more frequently than S&D.
Click on the 'Update' function and give it another go.
If that fails, then Hijack This is your best bet.

Good luck,

Ah, a "Browser Helper Object". Maybe you need CWShredder, then.
