Poor response on these newsgroups.

I have posted several questions both in the forums and now in these
newgroups. After a week of waiting, I have not gotten any responses except to
go look for a VS 2005 service pack. I don't feel that my constructs are
complicated. In fact it seems others have more complicated problems than
mine. I also note that few in the newsgroups are getting answers. So I have
to ask: what keeping people from getting here answering questions?

I think most people get pretty good responses here in the newgroup. I know
when I post questions, I generally get answers. Not always, but pretty
often.

I don't remember seeing your questions, so perhaps it's the subject lines
you're using or the way in which you're posting questions.

If you have questions to which you *need* answers, your best bet is
Microsoft Paid Support. You can find this on the MSDN site, and it's
generally in the $100 per incident range. Their support is excellent, and
every time I've used it I got excellent results.

Lou,

Strange I can find only one question from you in this newsgroup and that I
have answered together with somebody else. See bellow your reply.

That the Microsoft webforums have a low reply rate is known by everybody
except Microsoft. A pity is that the new Outlook in IE 7 seems to have big
problems with the newsreader and therefore a lot of (English) MVP's are not
able to answer at the moment because they are using now IE 7. Most of the
MVP's hate Microsoft webforums so that is almost the same. However your
message is in my opinion not true as it is about this newsgroup.

Well, not to become argumentative, but that's exactly the kind of answer I
didn't want. I can't see how you can speak for "most people" and I really
don't like being directed to a pay as you go service in order to deflect my
concern. Overall, your reply doesn't answer the question, it just discounts
it.

I thank you for your reply. But I see other posts that have been waiting and
have had no reply. I have posted elsewhere and seen nothing as well.

Your explanation of problems with IE was helpful. That is at least a good
reason. I should clarify that I have been sent to these newgroups unwillingly
from MSDN forums that seemed to going quite well. I was getting concerned
that there wasn't a critical mass here to help people out.

In any case, the newgroup venue isn't as user friendly as the MSDN forums
are. I have gone back. No doubt I will ge a "good-ridence" reply. :)).

Lou,

I can only see one other question from you, which appears to have been
answered. Its worth bearing in mind that not all questions will get
answered, but a high proportion will! The type of question, how its
worded - whether someone is reading who happens to understand your specifica
area etc. can all dictate whether a question gets answered.

That aside, why dont you try asking again if your first attempt doesn't
success?

Many reasons. For starters, nobody is obliged to answer (or even read)
questions here. If you're demanding a response then you'll have to come up with
the $$$ for it. Posting here is analogous to hitchhiking on a highway; nobody
is required to give you a ride. Call a cab if you don't like it.

I will say that it IS unfortunate Microsoft doesn't provide better free support
for their products by answering questions more often in newsgroups like this.
But Bill didn't become the richest man in the world by giving away things for
free.

Winston Churchill is NOT exactly my hero and I'm British in origin. He was
not a very intelligent person, a womanizer, unhealthy, etc. etc. not exactly
someone I look up to for anything.

What Microsoft are considered is medicore -- they settle, they ignore, they
don't response to those that feed them.

I have the SP1 Beta of VS 2005 -- do NOT install it, it has successfully
started creating zero byte .resx files and left ~1.compile files in my
projects. And I thought it couldn't get any worse that VS2005 release
version -- boy was I wrong.

I still developing for M$ junk, but I'm now fully engrossed in the world of
*nix as my new Mac Pro is proving to be a truely useful tool. The ADC of
$3500/yr is pricey, but NOT required to produce software.

Kevin, you really need to stop waving the M$ flag, it just becoming
unrealistic at this point. Have you actually seriously got into developing
on a Mac or *nix based environment? If you really do have the experience,
then your statement below is completely bogus and you'd know it.

I believe it was lost a long time ago -- about the time I got involved in
large VS 2005 projects based on .NET 2.0. But not all is lost, my humor
lives in *nix forums/newsgroups.

To Mr. Timney and Mr. Lowry,
The tools were free. I took an opportunity to learn. If I have to go pay for
support there must be proof that my questions can be answered. Not getting
answers here doesn't give me confidence that they will be when I start paying
for them. So I don't demand answers, but I do expect them, and when they
don't come I have to ask myself if there is a good reason - something
technical or something in my appraoch to the problem or my terminology, etc.
My post wasn't in anger, but out of curiousity. And I must say that Mr.
Lowry's response was in that light, unwelcome.

Now, as for asking more than once, I have asked 8 times in different ways
with better and better information, but without a single reply. Had someone
asked: "Can you explain?", or "What do you mean by...", I gladly would have.
All I can conclude is no one with the proper expertise can answer my
questions. That's scary because I am just starting with the .NET framework,
and I'm sure my experiments are very simple in comparison to what I see
others asking.

Enough of this diatribe.

Winston was a Great man...and for all you have said of him here, it gives me
hope that I can become great too. (HAHAHAHAH).
Have a great weekend everyone.

Lou,

Do you know that this message contains only words, not one fact. What
message was not answered.
What answers do you expect if you don't tell what your problem is and don't
ask for help for that.

I have answered all the questions you had in this newsgroup and I have seen
more answers. You said there was non.

Therefore on messages like this one I can only help you with. "Do you maybe
need new glasses?
