Policy to restart computers at a specific time

S

Steve Perry

I have an antique database application that requires reindexing everynight.
Even though it is a spoken company policy that everyone is supposed to log
out of their computers and leave them running overnight, not everyone does.
So I have a set up log on times under the users accounts profiles, which
specify when user can log in to the network. I have also set up a group
policy under Domain Policy/Computer Configuration/Windows Settings/Local
Policies/Security Options to Automatically log off users when logon time
expires both domain wide and local.

However, it apparently doesn't work completely, as I have computers
connected to the database server with files open which envrariably kills my
reindex job. I have a utility that I can run at each users workstation that
can be activated from a chron script, but I would rather create a group of
computers and schedule a mass logoff with that utility, of workstations at
the appropriate time through a group policy. Importantly, there are a
couple of computers that must remain logged in to run the reindex so they
must be confined from the mass log off.

I can't figure out how to do this.

Any ideas?

Thanks
Steven Perry
