Policy to prevent users from changing time

Mike Barbone

Hello,

Is there a group policy to prevent users from clicking on the taskbar clock
and changing the date / time? All the systems (Win 2K Pro and Win XP Pro)
time synch with the server, however some users will use the taskbar clock as
a calendar and accidentally change the time causing files to have times in
the future or past.

If there is a policy, will this prevent time synch with the server from
occurring? Because of software we use, all users need admin rights to the
local machine, will that prevent the policy from being applied?

Thank you,
Mike

This right is denied by default, but if you browse into security
settings/user rights under computer config, there is an entry for change
system clock - clear out any erroneous settings.

When you say "browse browse into security
settings/user rights under computer config", where do
you mean. I need to set this as well and I do not know
where you want me to make these changes.

Thanks,

1. Open the GPO you want to edit
2. Open teh Computer Config Node, browse to Windows Settings, Security
Settings
3. Under either Security Options or User Rights Assignment, there's a right
for changing the system time.

When I go to that setting, there is nothing selected. What should I do to
enforce this? Do I click the checkbox and add the SYSTEM group only, or just
leave the User/Groups allowed to change the clock blank? What user item is
needed for Time Synch with the servers to still take place?

Thank you,
Mike
