pointer now single-clicks to open after upgrade

After upgrading from XP Home to XP Pro, my pointer
occasionally will single-click to open (actually, now
that I think about it, just hovering will open folders,
activate hyperlinks, and select items. In control panel-
folder options, the correct setting is applied. I have
tried to reselect and apply the "double-click to open"
option but it still occasionally acts by simply hovering
the pointer.

Any help?

Any help?

TweakUI has an option called x-mouse where the presence of the mouse
gives an area focus. However, I've read a number of messages
indicating that if single-click activation is enabled, applications
may be launched that way.
