Pocket PC 2003 Connectivity without Activesync

Sorry to raise this topic again, but while there are indeed ~many~
previous postings, none that I've seen answer it for me.

Due to the inconsistancies and unrelyability of ActiveSync, I want to be
able to run apps with connectivity to the desktop for transfering data
and files but WITHOUT ActiveSync being used. I'm pretty sure something
could be done quite easily with bluetooth of Wireless technology, but
not eveyone has that. My initial thoughts were winsock-like ideas, and
there were some long postings about doing this in embedded C with WinCE,
but I'm a VB developer and was wondering if anyone could shed some light.

Many thanks.

Paul,

You already hit the major point in your question... ActiveSync is the
lowest common denominator for handheld access. If you went with a Bluetooth
solution you would have to invest in HighPoints stack or spend some time
getting familiar with sockets. IRDA is also an option - but far to slow to
be of practical use... As far as 'one-off' solutions go - I use Bluetooth
like a monkey.
