PNY 1 GB Flash Drive Performance

I just picked up a PNY 1 GB USB2 flash drive (part# P-FDO1GU20-RF) at
BestBuy for $20 USD after rebate and cannot find any reviews of it.

With HD Tach I get a flat line at 10MB/s.

Transferring a 650MB file of random numbers takes 180 seconds. That
corresponds to 3.6 MB/s.

The theoretical maximum for USB2 is 480Mb/s (60MB/s) but I have no idea what
is typical.

Does anyone have any numbers to compare with this?

You are confusing interface transfer rate and media transfer rate
here. The slower one is what you observe in the end. Interfaces
should usually be significantly faster that media so as not to be
the bottleneck. (Interfaces are easier to make fast than media.)

There was a test of a really fast one on slashdot some days ago:

Thanks for the link. I did google up some test results elsewhere but none
for the particular drive I bought. The results vary widely but what I am
getting is adequate for my purposes so it's a keeper.
