PNX*.tmp files - unknown

I am helping a friend who is continuously getting PNX*.tmp files ( i.e. PNX1A6.tmp) stored in the following directory c:\documents & settings\{his user_name}\local settings\temp on his PC. This directory has approx 1400 files for a total of 1 gig of space. Does anyone know what these files are?
 
When you use a plugin (i.e. RealPlayer) all it's data is stored in
files called PNX * .tmp and it creates a new file each
time a new clip is played and those are just too big to be stored forever.
(IE deletes them automatically when exiting). You may safely delete
those files.
