PNG and TIFF files (PDF'D) are blurry/fuzzy in PowerPoint

I am using excel files, converted to tiff or png, then pdf'd and put into
powerpoint. They are fuzzy/blurry. I have enhanced the Adobe resolution,
the screen resolution, etc. to no avail. Is this a common problem? Our
excel charts have very detailed work and lots of text graphics. Is there a
process that would help? We are using the full version of Adobe.
