Not exactly unknown either. Open WMP 10 to Tools > Plug-ins > Download
Plug-ins and you get this site.

Apologies for posting the above. I found it when looking for a codec to
enable Windows Media Player to play DVDs, and somehow assumed that the
plugins were all freeware.

FWIW, I've found Storm Codec, a freeware one which looks as if it might do
the job. I haven't tried it yet:
