Oh My God...
I soooo need help.
I ACCIDENTALLY deleted the SAM registry and now I cannot boot up in ANY
MODE...Safe Mode...Last known good config...NOTHING...
HELP!
I was following a prompt to repair a hard drive issue...and at a point where
I was to type in several commands, it first led me through steps to dlete,
then copy and restore old files...well...in the compand promt, right after
typing in:
delete C:\windows\system32\config\Sam
I accicentally hit the Esc button...rather than the enter button to move the
page to the next line and it restarted my PC, now I cannot log on as I
receive this error message:
lsass.exe - Syatem error
Security Account Manager inititalization failed because of the following
error...A device attached to the system is not functioning.
Error status: Oxcoooooo1

I have tried rebooting from my CD and before when I used the repair...all I
had to do was hit ENTER when prompted for my Admin. Password and it went
right through....now When I hit ENTER..it tells me the password is NOT VALID
and only gives me three tries before shutting down...I have no idea if I even
have an Administrator Password.
It's just me and my husband who use the PC and neither one of us has ever
set a password to have to log on...
HELP?
I have EVERYTHING on that PC and my son is in Iraq and all his contact
information is saved there and I can't access it now...I have no idea how to
reach him now...O' God...please I am desperate.
Please please tell me there is a way to get my PC back up and running...
Thank you
Apeke

Thank you yes, that is the correct error message as shown on that link page,
however NOW...I cannot even get my pc to boot from my Installation CD...I
think I screwed something up in the setup (BIOS?)
Please how do I get the PC to recognize and boot from my CD again.

This is a BIOS function. You must get to the BIOS screen and enable booting
from the CD first.

Hello Jim...And thank you for that info...
I am able to boot my PC from my install CD now, however, Could you please
tell me ...If I were to do a parallel install..will I be able to copy the
"SAM" file and place it into the orgiinally windows file that initially came
up missing? Or is this an install that will result in my losing my other
windows and all my documents and seetings?
Please reply.

Also, If I were able to fix this issue with Recovery Console, (which I just
read from the link you provided, that recovery console will not fix this
issue..) How do I get around the Promt for Admin. Password issue? I have had
to do a repair once before and all I had to do when prompted to type in my
password, we hit the ENTER KEY and was able to proceed, now it states
INVALIED and gives me up to three tries before I have to reboot and start
over....
I have NO IDEA what the Admin. Password is, as I do not recall setting one
up when I first set up windows after the purchase of my PC back in 2002 from
DELL.

Thank you..

Did you fix this yet? I just went through your admin problem and I can help
if you still need it. Your post was from a couple of weeks ago.
