Please :(( Slow network browsing in explorer

Hi,
yes I've searched the newgroups but no good answer was found.

This is what happens:
We have a small peer to peer network with 3 win 2000, 2 win xp SP2 en 1 win
95 PC. The pc we access the most (store of files) is win 2000. I've just
upgraded from 98 tot XP.
Browsing in 98 was a breeze compared to XP.
It just is generally slow. But is gets really annoying when I try to access
(open) a file after closing, saving a file (to the win 2000 pc). First
explorer won't be visible for some ten seconds then it's visible but I still
get the houreglass from some 10 seconds only then can I open another file.
So when I quickly want to change something (wrong written name,..) to a
bunch of files I can take a pee after every correction.

As I said I did my best to find out wath I could do:
1. http://www.ss64.com/nt/slow_browsing.html discribes my problem very well.
But I could not find such entree in register.
2. http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=320138 . Did not help.
3. http://v2.tlab404.com/articles/detail.asp?iFaq=316&iType=16 .Didn't help
also.
4. We are not using multimedia files
5. I don't thin ik's malware

As i gather it's a real common problem, many questions about it on this
newsgroup.
Yet few good answers.

Many thanks to any help.
You're wonderful.

Bart,

The one single thing that comes to mind, if not spyware, would be a complex
protocol stack. See this article:
<http://nitecruzr.blogspot.com/2005/05/fix-network-problems-but-clean-up.html>

Another possibility would be address resolution. Look at the DNS and WINS
settings under TCP/IP - Properties - Advanced - there are a lot of settings
there that can be problematic if you're not careful.

The reason why there are so many questions, and few good answers, is that there
are so many ways to fsck up your network, and no organised and canonical
catalogue of those ways. I've written an article which focuses on symptoms
showing in Network Neighborhood, and attempts to identify possible causes.
<http://nitecruzr.blogspot.com/2005/05/troubleshooting-network-neighborhood.html>

Networking in general, and Windows Networking in a more particular scope, is
incredibly complex. I'll wager that not one person who helps here knows all the
questions, let alone all the answers.
