I had a problem running Window Update that caused me to
eventually repair my WinXP Pro installation by running the
install disk. Since then, everything works with only one
little annoyance. Everytime I start the computer, I get
the following message "please select the following
operating system to start" with a choice of WinXP or the
recovery console. If I don't make a selection the
computer will eventually boot to XP. Or, I can hit the
enter button and the highlighted choice, XP, will start
immediately. How can I remove the message and just have
it boot to XP.

I would advise leaving it there, very useful in case of errors. You can
change the default timeout to a few seconds (mine is 4). Change it via
msconfig>boot.ini

Dave, rt click on MyComputer>Select Properties>Advanced>Startup and
Recovery-Settings>Edit.
You can change the Timeout=30 to 1 and delete the line that
has cmdcons recovery console.
