Hi,
I am having an unusual problem. My browser load any page when
typed in the address bar for eg. http://mail.yahoo.com. But when I
click the reply/forward button I get a Web page not found. I have a
Windows XP systems. The same problem happens with both IE & Firefox. I
disabled my firewall, deleted cookies, files. But still it is no use.
Please help. It is very frustrating. It happens for any site and not
just yahoo.

Thanks
Ganesh

Do you only have a problem when trying to reply to an email?
I'm not sure I understand what you mean when you say it happens 'for any
site' do you mean any site that has a reply/forward button?

Can you browse the rest of the internet without problems, ie is it only with
webmail sites that you have a problem?

Chris,
Thanks for your reply. The problem happens with sevral
sites. Some sites I cant even click on a link. It hangs and then says
Web page not found. I dont think it is just a web mail. The problem
has to with browsing. As I mentioned typing a web address in the
address space does not cause any problems. Downloads are typically
fast. It only has to do with browsing by clicking links on a web page.

So basically the problem is clicking on links...(?) and it sometime works
but not always, and it always/never works consistantly when you click on a
particular link, regardless of which browser you are using?

When you hover the mouse over a normal link, it shows the destination in the
status bar at the bottom of the browser window (with IE anyway). Other links
are not a standard HTML hyperlink, but a small piece of Java (as a rule,
these will not show a destination in the status bar)
Can you check to see if it is normal HTML links that work, and Java based
ones that don't... maybe you have a problem with the Java installation on
your PC?

I'm really only guessing here, hopefully someone will be along soon that
knows a bit more about this sort of thing...

Good Luck,

Chris,
Thanks once agin. At the bottom of the browser I do see the
long html link . It is the html link that is the problem. I disable my
firewall too, yet it is of no use.
Is it some spyware that is creating the problem?

Ganesh

You might check your HOSTS file to see if yahoo has been
banned. Sites can also be excluded from the browser. Look
under options - security (I believe that's the place).

You may have a trojan or other malware.

I suggest that you download both 'Spybot Search & Destroy' and 'Adaware SE'
from www.download.com (both are free) and install and run them.

Hi,
Where can I find the HOSTS file?

Ganesh

C:\Windows\system32\drivers\etc

The file is called HOSTS with no filename extension.
See
http://mvps.org/winhelp2002/hosts.htm
If you don't want this file you can delete it or preferably rename it (e.g.
to NOHOSTS).
The file is in text format so you can view/edit it using Notepad.

The simplest possible explanation I can come up with is that yahoo is
having problems with the page that your are trying to link to -- It may
not, in fact, exist. Can you follow links in other web pages besides
yahoo mail? Can you view the source for the troublesome "from" page and
copy the "to" URL to the clipboard and then insert it into the address
bar and does it then work? Can you successfully ping the "to" page's URL?
