I have been running Windows XP for a while now .... I like it :)
On the evening of the 16th I received an email from my ISP??? Not so sure now.
It was basically asking me to update my email settings, I thought nothing more about it and changed them. The following day I switched the PC on .... I could not open my Outlook express or Internet Explorer .... As I do alot of online trading, it is pretty vital that I can use these applications!
I got online using the other account set up on the same computer??? After trying to remember all the settings ...Grrrrrr. I had an incling that perhaps I had a virus?? So went to Trendmicro .... No virus found but did find several Adware and spyware progs .... Not satisfied, I downloaded A virus checker from Paretlogic. This kept coming up with Trojan.Sectho and Trojan.Bispy ..... I deleted all infected, but to no avail ..... Now my main account with all my hard work is stuck in a partition, that will not respond, not even the clock works. I tried to do System restore before I lost all functionality but would not open.
Is there anybody that could give me some good advise as to how to cure this problem ..... Preferably without loosing all my documents ??/

Thanks

Carey, did you read the OP's post beyond the 1st few sentences? Is
their some quota MS puts on you MVP(s) to answer each month to
maintain your precious MVP status, even to the point of answering with
bogus information?
The OP wants to know how to recover his/her data after a failed
restore point attempt - so how is directing the OP to an IE/Outlook
Express newsgroup going to help?
Note: If you are going to answer a Post, at least direct the OP
into the right direction instead of some tangent that was a piece of
information within the post that has no bearing on the final
question/solution.
We as IT professionals should take the time to read beyond the
customer's ranting/raving or be able to ignore what issues lead up to
the problem, and decipher the problem or question and direct a
solution as necessary, if we know it.

What do you mean, stuck - not even the clock works? I can only
provide XP PRO information, as I only have/work NT/2k/XP PRO or Linux
client machines).
When you login with a specific user, that user doesn't function?
Have you tried another account (i.e. a user login)? Does it work? If
so, you may be able access and copy your documents off to CD, Zip or
floppy before having to reformat/reinstall.
Have you tried "safe" mode?
Another choice it trying a "repair install", this may get you up
temporarily to copy off the documents you need.
Lastly, you could boot to the recovery console (providing the SAM
registry file is still intact and you have allowed the use of the SET
command within recovery console via the Local Security Settings), but
to copy documents from the harddrive to floppy, zip or another
drive/partition, you'll need to set the correct environment variables
as follows after getting into the recovery console:
SET AllowWildCards = TRUE
SET AllowAllPaths = TRUE
SET AllowRemovableMedia = TRUE

I reckon they would do themselves a favor by removing the "MVP" from their
posts. There are people in here with far better qualifications that just
post good answers.

I reckon that unless you yourself can offer a solution to the OP,
it would be best if you do not post at all since your only
point is unjustified criticism.
