First I would like to let you know I am a reasonably experienced pc user and
for someone else to advise me on this problem will have to be a little more
experienced than recommend I download an antivirus and spyware searchers
etc.

Internet explorer keeps randomly popping up with various crap. I do not even
use Internet explorer. I also have it blocked it by zonealarm.I have every
single update for Windows xp, I have the latest norton antivirus and I have
ad-aware and also tried spybot search and destroy. All of them find nothing
wrong with my pc but yet still these random popups. Please microsoft, give
us an option to uninstall your piece of crap???

Does anybody have any ideas? I will worship the ground you walk on if you
can sort this problem out for me.

Cannot thankyou enough for any advice.

My computer was hi-jacked the same way....

I found the following un welcome executables:

djopr1150.exe
tsl.exe
winadserve.exe
winadslave.exe
optimize.exe
salm.exe
kitchsnk.exe
ping.exe (ping is a legitimate program but it should not start on its own.)

I can't give you a quick fix other than Spybot Search and Destroy,
Spysweeper, AVG7, and Ad-Aware played parts in my eventual cleanup.

I hope someone comes up with something better for you

How about turning off XP's network "Messenger Service" (NOT to be confused
with MSN Messenger - they're two different things.).

How about adopting what the MVP's have been advising for years - "adopt and
use a multi-layered approach to your internet security". This includes a
high quality firewall / a/v program / regular sweeps with trusted
anti-spyware software. Use the MVP's Hosts file. Use the no-ads.pac
auto-configuration Java script. ....and do a bit of reading now and again
to keep abreast of what's happening out there in the wild. ...and dump
Symantec because it needs a complete rewrite !! :)

Hi,

Please run this
<snip from David H. Lipman>

1) Download the following three items...

Trend Sysclean Package
http://www.trendmicro.com/download/dcs.asp

Latest Trend Pattern File.
http://www.trendmicro.com/download/pattern.asp

Adaware SE (free personal version v1.05)
http://www.lavasoftusa.com/

Create a directory.
On drive "C:\"
(e.g., "c:\New Folder")
or the desktop
(e.g., "C:\Documents and Settings\lipman\Desktop\New Folder")

Download Sysclean.com and place it in that directory.
Download the Trend Pattern File by obtaining the ZIP file.
For example; lpt261.zip

Extract the contents of the ZIP file and place the contents in the same
directory as
sysclean.com.

2) Update Adaware with the latest definitions.
3) Disable System Restore
http://vil.nai.com/vil/SystemHelpDocs/DisableSysRestore.htm
4) Reboot your PC into Safe Mode
5) Using both the Trend Sysclean utility and Adaware, perform a Full
Scan of your
platform and clean/delete any infectors/parasites found.
(a few cycles may be needed)
6) Restart your PC and perform a "final" Full Scan of your platform
using both the
Trend Sysclean utility and Adaware
7) Re-enable System Restore and re-apply any System Restore preferences,
(e.g. HD space to use suggested 400 ~ 600MB),
8) Reboot your PC.
9) Create a new Restore point

Also run CWShreddar as well. Ad-aware SE and Spybot are good, but all
spyware detectors can't detect everything. You will also want to see if you
have windows messenger enable (not MSN Messenger), that could also open your
computer up to allow popups. www.kellys-korner-xp.com/xp_messenger.htm can
tell you how to disable or remove that. You don't need it on your computer.

Then you need to clean your system with spyware cleaners. Obviously what you
are using isn't catching the specific spyware that is installed on your
system. If we knew the names of the registry cleaners or what program the
pop ups are inviting you to download we might be able to identify what
spyware you have installed. Take this link and check out the online scanner.
It might help http://aumha.org/a/parasite.htm

Argggggg! Makes me want to tear my hair out when I read this sort
of post. Idiots! Security in Windows XP is sooooo damn easy. You
just have to turn *off* all the Microsoft *crap* before you
connect to the Internet, after loading XP. As long as you are
running a firewall, and don't double click on executables or
manually download malware, you are not going to get infected. Why,
why, why is it so hard for people to understand. TURN OFF THE
CRAP!!! Turn off Active X. Turn off Java. Turn off Java Script.
Turn off Active Scripting. Turn off Frames. Turn it off, turn it
off, turn it off, and you WILL NOT get infected. Even if you are
stupid enough to run Internet Explorer.
