Hi al
firstly sorry for using caps above!
Ive put a couple of posts up but no one seems to be able to help! My quick launch toolbar does not come on when i restart and ive got to manually switch it on under Taskbar properties

Someone pointed me to Kellys-korner but that does not resolve the problem, Ive also changed 'save settings' in the registry as pointed to me
That does not work either

Surely someone either out there in the public domain or at Microsoft has the answer? none of the above work and no other posts come up with an answer!! Im desperate now!!

thanks all for your help

Not having much experience with it, the only thing I can suggest is when you
do have it up, check the programs that are in it and see if one is disabled
or no longer installed as that may be causing the problem.

Sorry, what is so important about the "quick launch" toolbar that is
obviously driving you to near-suicide? Why not just use the "Desktop"
toolbar in it's shortened form and put all the icons on the desktop? That's
what I do. I don't have the "quick launch" toolbar enabled at all. Waste of
space.

its the 'show desktop' button i really need as i have loads of windows open at once and find it really easy to use
is there anyway of adding this to where the clock etc is?

Right-click on the taskbar, choose Toolbars, add Desktop. Then, drag the
"handle" of the Desktop towards the clock until you get >> showing. If you
click on the ">>" you get a menu of what's on the desktop.

You're right that it's not essential but, I love my (32 of them) quicklaunch
icons on the taskbar. The only annoying thing about them is the help
balloons that keep popping out.

And I thought my 16 icons was a lot =) Of course, 8 of them are for
different browsers (I have ie6, opera, mozilla, mozilla firefox, and 4
different netscapes), so maybe I'm in a minority there, but egads 32 sounds
like a bunch =)

OMG, 32 icons in quicklaunch? Do you have ANY taskbar space left for
any other open windows (that are readable by a normal human)?

I have 5 items in my quicklaunch. They are my internet programs
(Outlook, IE and Agent), the Show Desktop Icon and Windows Explorer.
I use them every single day. I have no other program I can't use the
start button to find.

Ye gods...32 programs. I couldn't use that many things on my computer
in a day.

I use 24 QuickLaunch icons, 17 in All Users - Start Menu. (Classic )
Very seldom do I ever have to access the Program groups. This way I
don't wear a trench in my desk and increase Carpal-Tunnel from mousing
to start an applications. Many times when I setup a system, I condense all
applications into at most 6-7 broad Program Group categories.

Please do *not* assume that the Quick launch bar needs to reside
on the taskbar. Although it appears there by default, it can
dragged off the taskbar and to any of the other three sides of
the screen desired.

How do you do that? No matter where I click in the Quick Launch bar (the
one nearest the Start button) I can't drag it anywhere.

Neither do I. I use the Desktop toolbar, dragged so that just the >>
shows. Click on the >>, and all my desktop icons are shown as a menu.
MUCH neater than a quicklaunch bar containing 17 items!

Actually, I use an old-fashioned blotter paper Desk pad. I remove
the blotter paper and use the black backing as a very wide mouse
pad & just a Gel wrist pad.

You can still buy the Desk pads at Office Max for around $8.00.

Right-click a blank part of the taskbar and uncheck "Lock the
taskbar" first.

I have an unlocked taskbar, but the quicklaunch area won't budge off
of it. It seems very happy right where it is with no intention of
moving!

I don't use my mouse to get to my start menu. I find it quicker and
easier to use the keyboard than to reach for the mouse.
