"My computer" wont open for about two minutes; it just
says searching for iteams. Also, whenever I attemp to
access any file structure (i.e. word save as function)
this also takes a very long time. I have just upgraded
to XP Pro from 98.se. I am not able to find any hardware
issues at all. Please help I am about to loose it.

You do not provide enough information to even start on
a fix. This is not a Microsoft monitored forum, just a
lot of users. The best way for you to get going quickly
is to take your computer to a professional repair shop.
Upgrading from Win 98se to XP Pro is not necessarily a
good move unless you are thoroughly familiar with what
all is involved. Many machines run 98se well, and turn
to mush with XP.

I suggest you repost this question, bearing in mind two points:

1. The title of your message: "Please Help" doesn't give us much to go on.
Remember that there are literally thousands of messages and thousands of
people reading them. Many of us like to help other, but we don't have time
to read every message in every forum. You want to attract the attention of
those people who might have the information you need (and a willingness to
respond); and conversely, we only want to read messages that we might be
interested in. So your title help us identify the general topic. Something
like "Upgraded to XP Pro, now can't logon" or whatever the problem is.

2. As zag said, you've provided practically no information for us to go on
even in the body of your message. You need to include the EXACT text of the
error message you're looking at, what files it's searching for (at least a
few examples), tell us what's not working and what does work (sounds like you
can launch a word processor, but can you open/save docs?), etc.

Try again...
