Please Help!

I have been assigned to make a data base for our production reports that are
now being done in excel. We use alot of calculating features to figure our
per man hour rate. I have several books and alot of time to work on this but
I wanted to know if it is something that is possible to do or am I wasting my
time? We do these production reports everyday.

Yes, this is certainly possible to do, and you are not wasting your time.

Hey Faith, it depends on the types of calculations you are doing. If we are
talking about simple totals, sums, etc., then it is easy to accomplish in
Access. Others, like complex Math and Financial functions, can be more
difficult b/c you may have to iterate through a recordset for calculations
rather then specifying a range like in Excel. If you have the time and
resources, just about anything can be accomplished in Access.

It is certainly possible. It is also going to take a while and a fair
amount of work. Learning Access has a very steep learning curve, but it is
a great program once you learn a little about it.

In some cases Excel IS the better product for the job and others it is
Access. It is difficult to tell from here which is best in your case.

I suggest you give it a try and stop back from time to time and let us
know how you are doing. A good time to stop back is once you have your
table structure planed. Let us know what you are doing and be ready for
some suggestions. We all like to see "normalized" tables and it is an easy
place to go wrong. Not all that hard to correct if caught in time.
