Please help with this Display Properties problem

Can anyone tell me how to stop the desktop from resetting itself at random?
For no reason that I can discern, the CPU will make a weird sound, then
"Please Wait" appears in a blue box in the middle of the screen. Then it
changes the background color of my icons' text. Once it even changed the
whole background to one I had on previously.

Thank you, Mark, but that's doesn't seem to be the problem. I get no error
messages. It does load my settings, but it changes them out of the blue,
occasionally. I want it to quit doing that.

(Line 187 ) Restore themes functionality in the First column and you can try
the Restore Luna theme in the second column if the first fix didn't help.

I tried the first one already, and a few others from there, and ended up
having to
restore a registry backup because it did something to the display properties
window, which I saw others on here mention. So I'd rather try something else.
Thank you for the suggestion, though.

Did you update your Video driver software?, sometimes this can cure some
issue with the card not holding the Display settings.
Or Remove and Reinstall it again.
