Using XP Home:

I installed a program (X10) that has sounds... turn on a switch and it makes
a click sound... things like that...

Program worked fine on my other PC using 98SE.. I installed the latest
version on this pc, and no sounds...

I checked under Sounds (Ctrl Panel).. all the correct sounds are associated,
etc...

Per X10, it's a windows problem - a firewall is blocking it.. which makes no
sense..
In the program itself, there is no provision to enable/disable sounds..
Where else can I look???

Thanks!

don't know why anyone would create
a headache for themselves.

consider uninstalling that x10 and or
maybe doing a system restore.

but if you have a special sound board
installed, then you may need an updated
driver for it.

it might be hard to believe, but windows
has great sounds and you can test them.

You isn't kidding!

DirectX checked out fine...

the X10 program works fine.. no sounds.. I still use it to control lights,
etc....

Seems after an extensive search, the latest version of the software will
never get the sounds to work... per the company, accessing sounds was
different under 98, 95, and as far back as 3.1, which is where they claim
this program originated...

So, I guess it will remains silent!

Thanks Ben!

maybe not all is lost.

have you tried right clicking on the icon
selecting compatibility mode under win98, maybe win95?
