Please Help - Outlook 2003 HTTP Connection

I have 2003 Enterprise Edition and I wanted to use Sharepoint Portal Services
so I could learn how to manage projects with project and Project Server. I
know they say it is a bad idea to install them on the same server but I had
no choice. Once I installed Sharepoint, Outlook Web Access stopped working.
So I followed the following articles:

http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?kbid=832769
http://support.microsoft.com/?id=823265

They helped getting Outlook Web Access working. I had to make a virtual
directory with a header of mail.domain.com and had it redirect to
https://mail.domain.com/exchange and that all seems to be working.

The problem is none of the outlook 2003 clients can't connect via HTTP
protocal off the network. They were working fine before but now hang up and
say can't find server. I have the hotfix installed to allow the use of the
Exchange Proxy Settings. I have connect using only SSL and both the fast and
slow network checkboxes checked and use NTML Authentication.

I think part of the problem is that when I type in https://mail.domain.com
it brings me to the sharepoint portal services web site so I am assuming that
since my connection settings in the Exchange Proxy Settings is
https://mail.domain.com it is hitting the same thing.

Is that correct? I am not sure what to do next to get this working again.
Is there a way to reset mail.domain.com back to the settings I had them
before but retain sharepoint portal services at www.domain.com?

Thanks for any help on this!!!

Ok, I got it!!!

For anyone wondering I will explain. When you install sharepoint the first
time don't use the Default Web Site. Create a new Virtual Directory and
install it under the new one. If you did install sharepoint under the
Default Web Site and OWA stops working then go through SharePoint and remove
the extension for the default web site through sharepoint administrator and
that will restore your orginal Exchange OWA settings.

After I removed the extension from default web site I made a new virtual
directory called project.domain.com. I then extended this virtual directory
using SharePoint. The I ran the Wizard that comes with the Project Setup for
Sharepoint and pointed it to the new virtual directory. The way I did it
internally is I mapped the new virtual directory to a different port like
5999 then told the wizard the location of the virtual directory was
http://server:5999. Then I reinstalled the Project Server and told it the
internal web site was http://server:5999 and the external was
https://project.domain.com.

So in the end I have a virtual directory other than the default website with
a directory under it called ProjectServer and all my sites for Sharepoint
will be under project.domain.com/sites.

If it doesn't work the first time you go to http://server:5999/ProjectServer
try going into the manage virtual directory through SharePoint and exclude
the ProjectServer directory. This fixed it for me.

Good luck!!!
