Please help me to set up my home network

Hi Everyone.
Just wanted to know why when I try to connect two computers using a
crossover ethernet cable, it keeps telling me that my cable is unplugged. I
have made syre that it is. Both my network adapters are on the motherboards
of the computers that I am trying to connect. Can anyone help as to how to
fix this?

Bad cable? Are you sure its a cross over cable and not a straight thru
cable?
